West Indies Set for Test and T20 Showdown with Australia

Cricket fans across the Caribbean are anticipating an intense summer of action as West Indies welcome Australia for a high-profile Test and T20I series.

The two sides will resume their historic rivalry with a three-match Test series for the prestigious Frank Worrell Trophy, followed by five Twenty20 Internationals as both nations prepare for a busy period in the international calendar.

The Test series begins at Kensington Oval in Barbados from June 25 to 29, before moving on to the National Stadium in Grenada from July 3 to 7, and concluding at Sabina Park in Jamaica from July 12 to 16. The trophy, named in honour of legendary West Indies captain Sir Frank Worrell, remains one of the most respected prizes in the sport.

Australia claimed a 2-0 series win the last time the teams met in early 2024, but the West Indies produced one of the shocks of the year with victory in the second Test in Brisbane – their first on Australian soil in 27 years. That performance has raised hopes of a strong showing on home ground.

Attention will then turn to white-ball cricket, with the T20I series opening at Sabina Park on July 20 and 22. The action then shifts to Warner Park in St Kitts, which will host the remaining fixtures on July 25, 26 and 28.

The T20 series is expected to play a key role in both teams’ preparations for the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, with full-strength squads likely to be named and players vying for form and selection.

West Indies last hosted Australia in 2021, securing a 4-1 T20I series win powered by the likes of Chris Gayle and Andre Russell. While those figures have since moved on, the new generation – including Brandon King, Alzarri Joseph and Akeal Hosein – are set to take centre stage.

Cricket West Indies are expected to confirm squads for both formats closer to the start of the series, with several players under consideration following a competitive domestic season and a forthcoming European tour.

Australia, led by captain Pat Cummins, are also likely to field a strong line-up, with Steve Smith, Travis Head and Josh Hazlewood among those expected to feature as they look to defend the Frank Worrell Trophy and build momentum ahead of a packed schedule.
