Fitzgerald and Madhoo Keep World Darts Dream Alive

Fitzgerald, the reigning national champion, made a remarkable impression, finishing third overall with 20 points. His return to competitive darts in 2023 followed a life-threatening vehicular accident, making his performance all the more inspiring. Veteran Madhoo, a familiar name in regional darts, secured 16th place with six points.

Both players now advance to the second leg of the three-stage qualifying series, which takes place in the Bahamas from July 25 – 27, before the final round in Chile later this year.

Guyana also made their mark in the doubles competition in Panama. Fitzgerald, who is aiming for a return to the World Darts Championship after more than a decade, partnered with Madhoo to reach the semi-finals. They were narrowly defeated by eventual champions Argentina, who booked their place at the World Cup.

Elsewhere, Guyanese duo Adrian Damon and Luis Miguel Ramirez-Merlano reached the quarter-finals before losing to Costa Rica, while Christopher Lochan and Anil Lachhman exited in the round of 64.

The tournament featured players from across Latin America and the Caribbean, with Guyana once again proving their strength in the regional darts arena.
