Dolphin Secondary Stun Defending Champions Chase

Dolphin Secondary School pulled off a memorable 3-2 victory over defending champions Chase’s Academic Foundation to claim their first Massy/Milo Under-18 Football Championship title on Sunday at the Ministry of Education Ground, Carifesta Avenue, Georgetown.

The April 27 final, which brought the curtain down on the 11th edition of the tournament organised by the Petra Organisation, saw two of Georgetown’s top school teams battle for supremacy in what proved to be a thrilling encounter.

With the scores locked at 2-2 in the closing stages, Dolphin struck decisively in the 90th minute to seal the win and deny Chase the chance to secure back-to-back titles.

Both sides had been dominant throughout the competition, emerging as early favourites during the group and knockout phases.

Earlier in the day, Waramuri Secondary — visiting from Guyana’s hinterland region — edged out West Ruimveldt Secondary in the third-place play-off. The competition continues to serve as a platform for youth development in Guyanese football.

It not only steers students away from negative influences but also acts as a scouting ground for the Guyana Football Federation (GFF), whose national youth training programmes benefit from the tournament’s exposure.

Several players who took part in this year’s championship are already integrated into GFF development squads and have represented Guyana at various junior regional and international levels, including the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) and CONCACAF youth tournaments.
