Guyana Amazon Warriors fell just short in their ExxonMobil Global Super League (GSL) opener, losing a tense contest on Thursday to reigning champions Rangpur Riders by seven runs at the Guyana National Stadium.
Batting first, the Riders posted 162 for 5, led by a composed 43 from Kyle Mayers, with support from Soumya Sarkar (35) and Iftikhar Ahmed (33). Guyana’s spin duo, Imran Tahir and Gudakesh Motie, were the pick of the bowlers, taking two wickets each.

In reply, the Warriors appeared well placed at 126 for 5 in the 15th over, with contributions from Johnson Charles (40), Moeen Ali (27), and a brief stand between Shimron Hetmyer and Sherfane Rutherford. However, a late collapse saw them bowled out for 154 in 19.1 overs, as Rangpur’s bowlers held their nerve in the closing stages.

On opening night, July 9, the Dubai Capitals claimed the first win of the tournament with a 22-run victory over Central Districts. After posting 165 for 8 from their 20 overs, the Capitals restricted the side to 143 for 8 in reply.
The teams competing in the second edition of the league are Central Districts, Dubai Capitals, Guyana Amazon Warriors, Hobart Hurricanes and Rangpur Riders. The tournament wraps up on July 18.
