Track stars Emmanuel Archibald and Tianna Springer lit up the National Track and Field Centre in West Demerara on Saturday, delivering standout performances in front of a home crowd at the Athletics Association of Guyana’s Senior Championships.
Archibald stormed to a sub-10-second win in the men’s 100m, while Springer underlined her rising status with a confident victory in the women’s equivalent.

Archibald, representing the Police Progressive Sports Club, blazed to victory in the men’s 100m final with a wind-assisted 9.98 seconds (+2.4 m/s). He edged out GDF’s Akeem Stewart (10.11s) and teammate Ezekiel Newton (10.21s) in one of the day’s most competitive events.
The 27-year-old had earlier topped his semi-final heat with 10.15s, setting the tone for his blistering final.
On the women’s side, Springer, also of the Police club, claimed gold in 11.52s, holding off GDF’s Tonya Rawlins (11.77s) and Akela Dover of Running Brave (11.82s). The 18-year-old continues to build a reputation as one of Guyana’s brightest sprint prospects.

In the men’s 400m, GDF’s Simeon Adams came out on top in 48.70s, just ahead of teammate Joshua Lam (49.25s) and Police’s Tishawn Easton (49.95s). Aliyah Abrams dominated the women’s 400m, crossing the line in 53.73s, well ahead of GDF’s Keliza Smith and Kenisha Phillips.
Relay action rounded out the day in style, with GDF’s ‘B’ team clocking 41.60s to win the men’s 4x100m. Strong legs from Stewart, Newton, Ogle and De Souza gave them the edge over Upper Demerara Schools and Police, who settled for second and third.
With one day remaining, the Championships promise more fireworks as Guyana’s best continue to chase national glory.
