Shemaine Campbelle has been named captain of the Guyana women’s team for the upcoming Cricket West Indies (CWI) Women’s T20 Blaze, which bowls off on May 1 in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
Guyana will open their campaign against the Leeward Islands at 10:00 a.m. at the Arnos Vale Stadium on the opening day of the tournament.

The regional competition will see the South American nation face five other sides — Barbados, Jamaica, Leeward Islands, Trinidad and Tobago, and hosts Windward Islands — in what CWI has described as “the pinnacle of women’s domestic T20 cricket in the Caribbean”, showcasing “the region’s finest talent”.
The selection committee, including Head Coach Tremayne Smartt, has chosen a mix of experienced and emerging players, including Cherry-Ann Fraser, Shabika Gajnabi, Realeanna Grimmond, Sheneta Grimmond, Nyia Latchman, Mandy Mangru, Tramaine Marks, Katana Mentore, Plaffiana Millington, Ashmini Munisar, Cyanna Retemiah, Anestecia Venezuela and Latoya Williams.
A total of 16 matches will be played throughout the competition, with defending champions Jamaica firmly in the spotlight. They return determined to retain their T20 crown after a dominant, unbeaten run in last year’s tournament, but with added motivation following their recent loss to Trinidad and Tobago in the CG United Women’s Super50.
The tournament will be contested in a round-robin format during the preliminary stage, with six points awarded for a win, three for a no result, and none for a loss. The top two sides at the end of the group stage will progress to the final, which is scheduled to be played on May 11.
CWI’s President, Dr. Kishore Shallow noted that “following a successful Vincy Premier League, it’s great to see the cricket action continue in St. Vincent—this time with competitive women’s cricket taking center stage. Playing under the lights at Arnos Vale adds a vibrant atmosphere, and it’s shaping up to be an exciting series featuring some of the best female talent in the region.”
