CARICOM Classic Chess Tournament Set for June 30 Start

The CARICOM Classic Team Chess Tournament has been confirmed to take place from June 30 to July 7 at the Pegasus Suites and Corporate Centre in Georgetown, Guyana.

Organised by the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) in partnership with the CARICOM Secretariat, the biennial event will follow a nine-round Classical Swiss format, featuring top teams from across the Caribbean battling for podium finishes.

An under-16 junior event will run alongside the main tournament, offering young players a chance to gain vital international experience.

The first edition in 2024 saw Trinidad and Tobago claim top spot, with Guyana finishing second and Barbados third. Other nations involved included Suriname, Jamaica, Dominica, St. Lucia, the Bahamas, and the Cayman Islands.

The GCF plans to establish the CARICOM Classic as a key fixture in the regional chess calendar, held in the off-years between Chess Olympiads.

The next edition is slated for 2027.
