Chung Impresses with Credible Showing at Junior Pan Am Qualifier

Lucas Chung delivered a credible performance at the Junior Pan American Games 2025 Qualifier, proudly flying the flag for Guyana against top junior archers from 24 countries.

Competing in the elimination rounds from March 19 – 23, Chung made a strong start in his match against Jacob Mighty of Jamaica, taking a 2-0 lead after the opening end. However, despite a close contest, Mighty edged through to the next round.

The qualifier, part of the build-up to the 2025 Games in AsunciĂłn, Paraguay, saw intense competition, with athletes from Ecuador, Trinidad and Tobago, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, and Peru all battling for a place in the finals. In the end, Bolivia, Venezuela, Cuba and Ecuador advanced to contest the title.

Chung, who recorded a personal best score of 580, remained upbeat despite the result.

“This tournament has been an incredible learning opportunity, and I am grateful for the chance to connect with fellow archers from across the Americas. I look forward to more international competitions and continuing to grow as an athlete,” said Chung.

Archery Guyana President Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon praised his performance, describing it as a key milestone in his development.

“Lucas Chung performed admirably against an opponent with significantly more competition experience and the advantage of prior training camp participation.”

She added that the tournament is the beginning of a promising international journey for the young archer.
