Guyana’s Reyaz Latif and Richard Ramdeholl were among the individual award winners in the recently concluded Cricket West Indies (CWI) Rising Stars Under-15 tournament, which saw Barbados retain their title following an unbeaten campaign in Antigua.
Latif of Transport Sports Club in Georgetown was named Most Wickets after claiming 15 scalps in five matches, a consistent performance that underpinned Guyana’s third-place finish.
Teammate and captain Ramdeholl of Rose Hall Canje Cricket Club shared the Most Catches accolade with J’Quan Athanaze of the Leeward Islands, both registering five catches during the competition.
The young cricketers were honoured at a closing ceremony hosted by CWI Chief Executive Officer Chris Dehring, who praised the skill and sportsmanship on display throughout the week-long competition.
“This is the development phase for our players, and the pride and skill on display throughout the tournament bodes well for the future,” Dehring said in a statement. “The individual winners will have moments to cherish as they continue their growth and progress through the age-group levels, with the ultimate goal of representing the West Indies.”
The tournament featured teams from across the region and was played entirely in Antigua. It culminated in a top-of-the-table clash on April 23 at the Coolidge Cricket Ground, where Barbados secured a 49-run win over Guyana to seal back-to-back titles.
After posting 209 for 8 from their allotted 50 overs, the Barbadian bowlers dismissed Guyana for 160. Barbados captain Justin Parris was named Best All-Rounder, having contributed 121 runs and 13 wickets with his leg-spin. Team-mate Kelani Clarke finished as the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 216 runs, further underlining the depth of talent within the side.
Elsewhere, Jamaica’s Luwain Pryce was named Best Wicketkeeper, having effected 11 dismissals during the tournament. Barbados finished top of the points table with 27.4 points, ahead of Trinidad & Tobago on 19.4 points. Guyana placed third.
The tournament serves as a key development platform for young cricketers across the Caribbean, forming part of CWI’s long-term player pathway aimed at producing future West Indies internationals.
