Cricket West Indies (CWI) has confirmed it is closely monitoring escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, amid growing concerns for the safety of West Indies players currently participating in franchise leagues in both countries.
In a statement issued on May 8, CWI said it was maintaining active communication with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), and West Indies players involved in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

“We are in active communication with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), and our players currently involved in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Pakistan Super League (PSL),” the statement read.
The regional cricket body also noted that it is working alongside the West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) to coordinate safety and logistical plans, should the need arise.
“CWI is also in talks with our strategic partner, West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA), to coordinate and ensure the safety, security, and well-being of all West Indies players and support personnel in the region. The welfare of our people remains our highest priority.”
Relations between India and Pakistan have been historically tense, primarily due to territorial disputes over Kashmir. Both nations possess nuclear capabilities, and while military and diplomatic tensions flare periodically, recent military activity has renewed regional and international concern.
The developments come at a time when both countries are hosting major domestic competitions. The IPL, currently approaching its closing stages, features several West Indies players and is being staged at packed venues across India. Meanwhile, the PSL is also ongoing in Pakistan, with fixtures being held in major cities such as Lahore and Karachi.
The growing unrest has led to increased scrutiny from governments and sports governing bodies, who are assessing security and contingency arrangements for overseas players.
CWI confirmed it is in regular contact with a range of sources to stay updated on the situation.
“CWI continues to receive regular updates through diplomatic, governmental, and cricketing channels, and stands ready to offer assistance where necessary. We remain committed to the spirit of international cricket and to supporting our players through this uncertain and sensitive period.”
