Daniel Williams has set a new national men’s 100m record for Guyana, clocking 10.06 seconds to surpass the previous mark of 10.09 seconds held by Emanuel Archibald.
The 23-year-old, originally from Linden, achieved the record-breaking time at the Life University Last Chance meet on Sunday, further cementing his reputation as one of Guyana’s top sprinters.
In a statement, the Athletics Association of Guyana praised the achievement stating that “Williams has not only made history but also brought immense pride to our nation. His dedication, discipline, and perseverance continue to inspire athletes across Guyana and beyond.”

This is not Williams’ first record-breaking feat in 2024. In March, he shattered the South American indoor 200m record at the NAIA Championships, clocking 20.48 seconds at the Alachua County Sports Centre.
His time eclipsed the longstanding record of 20.65 seconds, set by Brazilian Olympic medallist Robson Caetano da Silva in 1989.
