Guyana’s athletes have been engaged in a series of high-performance training camps in Asunción, Paraguay, since May, ahead of the August Junior Pan American Games.
The latest group set to benefit from this initiative comes from archery, with a tailored training session scheduled to run from August 2–6.
The programme is being delivered under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) President Godfrey Munroe and President of the Paraguay Olympic Committee, Camilo Pérez. The partnership aims to support the development of elite athletes through access to high-quality facilities, expert coaching, and international exposure.
Representing Guyana in the upcoming archery camp will be Lucas Chung, Karin Toppin, and coach Jeewanram Persaud. Their participation marks a historic moment, as Guyana is set to make its archery debut at the Junior Pan Am Games this August in Paraguay.
Among those who have already taken part in the training camps are Nathan Vanderhyden and coach La Toya Herbert in taekwondo. The basketball delegation included Arren Caream Vanlewin, Stephen Jephthan George, Domitre Haile Rankin, and coach Wilon Cameron.

In weightlifting, Guyana was represented by Kymani Joseph, Oshana Quamina, and coach Tyson English. While for volleyball, the participants were Reaz Farinha, Micah Chichester, and coach Juan Valesquez.
The GOA said the collaboration with Paraguay is part of its ongoing commitment to athlete development, providing Guyana’s young talents with meaningful preparation opportunities ahead of major international competition.
