Abiola Jackman will be Guyanaâs sole female representative at the upcoming Americas Boxing Confederation (AMBC) Elite Championships, set to take place from May 18â23 in Ecuador.
This is the first time Guyana will be represented in the womenâs division of the competition.

The 23-year-old rising star in the Womenâs 81kg category will be joined by three male teammates: Ken Harvey (Youth 60kg), Joseph Jackson (Youth 75kg), and Simeon Haymer (Youth 67kg), the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) has confirmed.
National coaches Lennox Daniels and Jeff Roberts will accompany the squad to the regional tournament. Jackman has already made a name for herself on the regional circuit, having been named Best Female Boxer at the 2025 Caribbean Boxing Championships in St Lucia.
She clinched the award following a dominant victory over Trinidad and Tobagoâs Angel George. Guyana enjoyed a strong showing at the championships, securing a total of nine gold, three silver, and two bronze medals.
This will not be the first time Guyana features at the AMBC Elite Championships. In 2022, a four-member teamâcomprising middleweight Desmond Amsterdam, light welterweight Colin Lewis, and lightweight Jamal Eastmanâcompeted in Guayaquil, Ecuador.
Amsterdam advanced to the semi-finals, where he earned a bronze medal and made history as the first Guyanese amateur boxer to receive prize money under the International Boxing Associationâs revised payment structure.
The inclusion of youth boxers Harvey, Jackson, and Haymer in this yearâs delegation highlights the GBAâs ongoing commitment to nurturing emerging talent and providing them with valuable international exposure.
