Guyana Gears Up for AMBC Elite Championships with Rising Star Jackman

Abiola Jackman will be Guyana’s sole female representative at the upcoming Americas Boxing Confederation (AMBC) Elite Championships, set to take place from May 18–23 in Ecuador.

This is the first time Guyana will be represented in the women’s division of the competition.

The 23-year-old rising star in the Women’s 81kg category will be joined by three male teammates: Ken Harvey (Youth 60kg), Joseph Jackson (Youth 75kg), and Simeon Haymer (Youth 67kg), the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) has confirmed.

National coaches Lennox Daniels and Jeff Roberts will accompany the squad to the regional tournament. Jackman has already made a name for herself on the regional circuit, having been named Best Female Boxer at the 2025 Caribbean Boxing Championships in St Lucia.

She clinched the award following a dominant victory over Trinidad and Tobago’s Angel George. Guyana enjoyed a strong showing at the championships, securing a total of nine gold, three silver, and two bronze medals.

This will not be the first time Guyana features at the AMBC Elite Championships. In 2022, a four-member team—comprising middleweight Desmond Amsterdam, light welterweight Colin Lewis, and lightweight Jamal Eastman—competed in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Amsterdam advanced to the semi-finals, where he earned a bronze medal and made history as the first Guyanese amateur boxer to receive prize money under the International Boxing Association’s revised payment structure.

The inclusion of youth boxers Harvey, Jackson, and Haymer in this year’s delegation highlights the GBA’s ongoing commitment to nurturing emerging talent and providing them with valuable international exposure.
