Guyana’s men’s table tennis team have been knocked out of the Caribbean Regional Table Tennis Championships after suffering two defeats in the group stage.
The championships, taking place from June 17–22 at the Sir Garfield Sobers Sports Gymnasium in Bridgetown, Barbados, bring together top players from across the region. This year’s event features 15 participating nations, with Cuba entering as the defending men’s team champions.
The Guyanese men were drawn in Group 3, alongside regional heavyweights Dominican Republic and an improving Saint Lucia side. Despite a spirited showing, they fell 1 -3 to the Dominican Republic and St Lucia.
Leading the squad in Barbados is Shemar Britton, a former Caribbean men’s singles bronze medallist and Under-21 champion. He is joined by a youthful trio of Jonathan Van Lange, Elishaba Johnson, and Niran Bissu, Guyana’s reigning Under-19 champion.

“While we didn’t progress beyond the group stage, our players showed great heart and resilience against strong Caribbean opposition,” the Guyana Table Tennis Association said in a statement. “Every match was a learning experience and a step forward in our rebuilding process, as we continue developing senior talent for the future.”
The association added that this tournament forms part of its long-term strategy to invest in youth while integrating them alongside experienced players.
“As part of our rebuild strategy and process for the future, we are fielding and blooding a talented youthful team,” the association added. “They are led by seasoned warrior Shemar Britton and are prepared to compete across multiple categories in this prestigious regional tournament.”
The Caribbean Regional Championships remain a key development platform for nations across the region, with medals on offer in team, singles, doubles, and mixed events.
