Guyana Women have made an emphatic start to the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Women’s T20 Blaze, sitting top of the table after winning their first four matches in the regional competition.
The tournament, which began on May 1 at the Arnos Vale Playing Field in Kingstown, St Vincent, features the top six women’s teams in the Caribbean and serves as the premier domestic T20 competition for aspiring international cricketers.
Guyana have recorded victories over the Leeward Islands, Windward Islands, Barbados, and most recently, Trinidad and Tobago, demonstrating strong form with both bat and ball.
In their opening match, Guyana defeated Leeward Islands by seven wickets. The Leewards posted 88 for 7 from their 20 overs, before Guyana chased the target with ease, reaching 89 for 3 in 18.2 overs. Realeanna Grimmond top-scored with 33.
Two days later, on May 3, the team bowled out the Windward Islands for 61 for 9 in just 13 overs. The run chase was completed comfortably, with Guyana finishing on 65 for 3 in 12 overs. Grimmond once again impressed with 30 runs, supported by Shabika Gajnabi, who remained unbeaten on 26.

On May 6, Guyana secured a four-wicket win over Barbados. After restricting their opponents to 68 for 9 from 20 overs, the Guyanese women reached the target at 69 for 6 in 18.2 overs. This time, the standout performance came from Katana Mentore, who guided the chase with 14 not out.
Their most dominant display came on May 8, when they swept aside Trinidad and Tobago by eight wickets. The Trinidadians were bowled out for just 35 in 14.3 overs, and Guyana chased it down in just 6.3 overs, finishing on 37 for 2. Gajnabi scored 14 not out, while captain Shemaine Campbelle added 13 not out.
Guyana now lead the standings with a perfect record, while Leeward Islands Women and Trinidad and Tobago Women round out the top three.
The CWI Women’s T20 Blaze is a key platform for regional players aiming for selection to the West Indies Women’s team, particularly with international assignments and World Cup qualifiers approaching. The tournament is played in a round-robin format, with each team playing five matches. The side with the highest points at the end will be crowned champions.
The Guyanese team next face Jamaica on May 9, as they look to maintain their unbeaten run and stay top of the table.
