Hooper grabs triple jump bronze

Natricia Hooper produced a solid jump of 13.64 metres to claim bronze in the women’s triple jump at the South American Athletics Championships in Argentina on April 25.

The 26-year-old, who has flown the Golden Arrowhead at multiple international meets, was beaten by Brazil’s Laila Ferrer de Sousa, who claimed gold with a leap of 13.96m. Her compatriot, Nubia Da Silva, took silver with a jump of 13.76m to give Brazil a clean sweep of the top two spots.

Hooper, who trains under coach Petros Kyprianou, has been showing steady progress this season. She previously represented Guyana at the Tokyo Olympic Games and the World Championships in Oregon.

The three-day event drew elite athletes from across the continent and doubled as a crucial qualifier for the 2025 World Championships. Guyana’s contingent include Noelex Holder (200m), Akeem Stewart (100m), Shemar Horatio (200m), Analisa Redmond (long jump), Emanuel Archibald (triple jump), Kerion DeSouza (100m), and Leslain Baird (javelin).
