The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been suspended for one week due to growing tensions at the India-Pakistan border, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on Friday.
In a statement issued on Friday afternoon, the BCCI announced that the IPL has been suspended “with immediate effect for one week” as a precautionary measure in light of the cross-border military developments.
“Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders,” said board secretary Devajit Saikia.

“The decision was taken by the IPL Governing Council after due consultation with all key stakeholders following the representations from most of the franchisees, who conveyed the concern and sentiments of their players, and also the views of the broadcaster, sponsors and fans,” he added.
“While the BCCI reposes full faith in the strength and preparedness of our armed forces, the Board considered it prudent to act in the collective interest of all stakeholders.”
The decision comes amid escalating tensions in the region, with reports of military action along the border drawing international concern.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) also issued a statement on Thursday, confirming they were “closely monitoring the escalating situation between India and Pakistan following recent military actions in the region.”
“We are in active communication with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), and our players currently involved in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Pakistan Super League (PSL),” CWI said.
“We have also engaged our strategic partner, West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA), to coordinate and ensure the safety, security, and well-being of all West Indies players and support personnel in the region. The welfare of our people remains our highest priority.”
