Jamaica have claimed this year’s Caricom Classic Team Chess Tournament title, finishing ahead of Trinidad and Tobago in second and Suriname in third.
The FIDE-rated round-robin event, held from July 1 – 6 at the Pegasus Suites in Kingston, Georgetown, brought together 10 teams from eight Caricom nations, each featuring four players. The tournament was hosted by the Guyana Chess Federation in partnership with the Caricom Secretariat.

Jamaica topped the standings with 29.5 points, narrowly edging Trinidad and Tobago on 29, with Suriname securing 25.5. Barbados finished fourth on 22.5 points, while Guyana’s Team A placed fifth with 21.5.
Guyana’s WCM Aditi Joshi led the hosts with 6 points, followed by CM Taffin Khan and Kyle Couchman on 5.5 each. Jamaica’s Shreyas Smith was the tournament’s standout, going unbeaten with 8.5 points, his only draw coming against Trinidad and Tobago’s FM Kevin Cupid.

In the junior segment, four Guyanese players placed in the top ten of the nine-round FIDE-rated Swiss tournament, earning individual prizes.
