The Under-20 Women’s National Team are set for a monumental test as they face six-time champions the United States in their opening match of the 13th edition of the CONCACAF Women’s Under-20 Championship on May 30 in Costa Rica.

The match will take place at the Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela, with the United States aiming to extend their record haul of titles. This is the first time the Guyanese players have made it to the championship stage of the regional tournament.
Guyana is in Group A alongside hosts Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, and the United States. Following their opener, the Junior Lady Jags will meet Costa Rica on June 1, before concluding the group stage against Puerto Rico on June 3.

This year’s tournament began on May 27 with Group B action, featuring defending champions Mexico, two-time winners Canada, as well as Panama and Nicaragua. It is the first time Costa Rica has hosted the competition.
Guyana booked their place in the final eight with an outstanding performance in the qualifying stage, finishing top of their group.
The Championship not only crowns the regional winner but also serves as the final qualification phase for the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup, to be held in Poland in 2026. The top four sides will secure places at the global tournament.
Ahead of their campaign, the Guyanese squad have been undergoing intensive preparations at the Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) National Training Centre in Providence, East Bank Demerara.
