Guyana’s push to revitalise women’s basketball received a major boost today as overseas-based national player Ruth Adams led a full-day clinic at the refurbished Cliff Anderson Sports Hall in Georgetown.
Adams, who was born in Plaisance before migrating to the United States at the age of eight, has built a successful professional career across the USA and Europe. Now back on home soil, she’s on a mission to inspire the next generation of female players.
The May 3 clinic is part of a wider effort by the Guyana Basketball Federation (GBF) to raise the standard of women’s basketball in the country and provide young athletes with clear development pathways.
The GBF recently confirmed a national women’s 3×3 team for the upcoming Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in San Salvador, with Adams set to lead the squad – a clear sign of the federation’s growing investment in the women’s programme.
Officials say more initiatives are in the pipeline, as Guyana looks to establish a strong foundation for long-term success in the women’s game.
