Rodeo Returns April 18

The Rupununi Ranchers Rodeo is set to gallop back into action on April 18, with a packed schedule of events at the iconic Triple R Ground in Lethem, Region Nine (Upper Takutu–Upper Essequibo). Cowboys and cowgirls – both ranch-affiliated and independent riders – will compete over three days, concluding on April 21, in Lethem, the regional capital bordering Brazil.

Thousands of locals and international visitors are expected to flock to the area for the region’s premier tourism and sporting event, which this year adopts the theme: Legendary Stories, Legendary Rides. The competition promises to be as fierce as ever, with participants vying for cash prizes and trophies across a range of traditional rodeo events, including bareback bronco riding, saddle bronc, steer roping, ribbon roping, and the crowd-favourite wild cow milking.

Beyond Lethem, rodeo festivities will stretch across the wider Rupununi region throughout April. Local events will be hosted in villages including Aranaputa at Rock Point (North Rupununi), Sand Creek (South Rupununi), and Aishalton in the Deep South, offering additional chances for riders to showcase their skills and for communities to celebrate the rich ranching heritage of the Rupununi.
