Guyana’s Shotokan Karate Federation (ISKF) team secured a third-place finish at the 4th ISKF South America Masters Tournament, held in Bogotá, Colombia from April 24 – 27.
The 29-strong squad impressed across both individual and team events in what proved to be a highly competitive championship, featuring some of the continent’s top karate talent. The tournament opened with intensive training sessions and seminars led by ISKF Chief Instructor and Chairman, Shihan Hiroyoshi Okazaki, 9th Dan.

Guyana’s junior athletes led the medal charge, with standout performances from Katalina Carter, Arryan Sankar and Agnes Siju — all of whom secured double gold in Kata and Kumite in their respective girls’ age groups.
Boys’ 12–13 competitors Jasmin Dalgetty and Amario Tyrrell also delivered double-gold performances, while David Charles and Emily Ibbott earned two silver medals each. A number of other juniors, including Jevanah Collins, Ethan Goodhart, and Trivena Tyrrell, made valuable contributions to the medal count.
In the senior black belt categories, Talitha Kissoon claimed bronze in Kata and silver in Kumite (women’s 18–21), with further medals from Kristian Chaves, Alex Rodrigues, and Feonia Yong. Rosita Katchay captured gold in Kumite in the 45–55 division, adding further prestige to the team’s haul.
The team events also yielded success. Guyana’s junior trio of Collins, Chan and Goodhart won gold in Team Kata, with another junior team securing silver. In Team Kumite, the Guyanese edged past hosts Colombia in the semi-finals before narrowly missing out on gold against Argentina in a closely fought final.
Argentina finished as overall tournament champions, with Colombia taking second.
