(Olympics.com) A week ago, Shelly–Ann Fraser–Pryce – a three-time Olympic champion and one of the most decorated sprinters in history – voiced her optimism about the next generation of female sprinters from Jamaica.
On Friday, that generation showed there was no need to wait long for Fraser-Pryce’s forecast to come true as 20-year-old twins Tia and Tina Clayton went one-two on the women’s 100m podium at the Diamond League meet in Doha, Qatar.

Tia Clayton blasted off in Lane 3 to set a world lead of 10.92 in the event. Her sister crossed the finish line next, clocking a 11.02.
Fraser-Pryce nearly made it a sweep as she sped up in the final 50m of the race, but her 11.05effort was ultimately not enough as Great Britain’s Amy Hunt crossed the line ahead of her, in a personal best of 11.03.
Luxembourg’s Patrizia van der Weken looked to be in podium contention in the first half of the race, but faded towards the end, finishing fifth (11.05).
The Diamond League in Doha marked Fraser-Pryce’s first outing at the meet since she won the 100m race here in 2021. The 10-time world champion is making what is believed to be a farewell tour on the athletics circuit.
The race at the Qatar Sports Club comes shortly after she helped Jamaica earn a bronze medal for Jamaica in the women’s 4x100m relay team recently concluded World Athletics Relaysin Guangzhou, People’s Republic of China, on Sunday (May 11), where her relay teammates included the Clayton sisters.
The Doha meet is the third stop on the 2025 Diamond League athletics series and the first stop where the women’s 100m was contested.
