Cricket West Indies (CWI) has named its squads for both the 50-over and ‘A’ Team Test matches against South Africa ‘A’, with five Guyanese players among those selected.
Kevlon Anderson, Kemol Savory, Shamar Joseph, Tevin Imlach, and Ronaldo Alimohamed will all feature in the red-ball series, which takes place from May 21 to June 11 at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in Saint Lucia.
CWI confirmed in a statement that the chosen players have impressed with consistent performances across the regional formats and will now have the opportunity to prove themselves against quality international opposition.
Miles Bascombe, Director of Cricket at CWI, highlighted the significance of the series in the broader developmental pathway of West Indies cricket.
“This series gives us the opportunity to broaden our player pool and aligns with our long-term strategic plan to support the growth of emerging and fringe players who are on the cusp of advancing to the senior team.”
Alick Athanaze will captain the side for the 50-over leg of the tour. The two A-Team Tests will be led by Tevin Imlach and Jomel Warrican, offering both players valuable leadership experience. Andre Coley has been appointed Head Coach for the duration of the tour.
The series also serves as a prelude to the much-anticipated “Full Ah Energy” West Indies Home Series, beginning on June 11 at the 3Ws Oval in Barbados. There, West Indies Women take on South Africa in what promises to be an electrifying start to a packed summer of international cricket across the Caribbean.
Admission to all A-team matches will be free of charge, offering supporters a rare chance to witness some of the region’s brightest emerging talent.
