Windies Target Early Edge in Worrell Trophy Opener

The West Indies men’s team will be aiming to make a strong start when they take on Australia in the opening Test of a three-match series for the Sir Frank Worrell Trophy, beginning on Wednesday at Kensington Oval in Barbados.

The series marks the beginning of the 2025–2027 ICC World Test Championship cycle and will see the two traditional rivals battle across the Caribbean. The second Test will take place from July 3–7 at the National Stadium in Grenada, with the final match — a day/night fixture — scheduled for July 12–16 at Sabina Park in Jamaica.

The men in maroon will be keen to put on a commanding display on home soil and deliver joy to their supporters across the region.

With optimism high throughout the Caribbean, Head Coach Daren Sammy has backed the squad selected to begin the new cycle. Roston Chase has been named captain, with fellow spinner Jomel Warrican appointed as vice-captain.

The full squad includes: Kevlon Anderson, Kraigg Brathwaite, John Campbell, Keacy Carty, Justin Greaves, Shai Hope, Tevin Imlach, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Johann Layne, Mikyle Louis, Anderson Phillip and Jayden Seales.

Sammy has praised the direction the team is taking, noting the emphasis on building a competitive and consistent Test unit capable of challenging the top sides in world cricket.
