West Indies Breakout League: Guyana Rainforest Rangers rooted to bottom

Guyana Rainforest Rangers remain bottom of the table after three rounds of matches in the inaugural West Indies Breakout League, despite several impressive individual performances from within their squad.

The Rangers have suffered three consecutive defeats and sit sixth with seven points — level with Jamaica Titans but behind on net run rate. Their latest setback came in a narrow loss to Jamaica, where they fell just three runs short of chasing 166.

Despite the defeats, the team has found bright spots in the form of batter Kevlon Anderson, who leads the tournament’s run charts, and bowlers Jediah Blades and Nial Smith, who sit first and second respectively in the wicket standings.

At the top of the table, Trinidad & Tobago Legions have made a perfect start, winning all three of their matches to collect 24 points. The Leeward Islands Thunder are close behind in second with 14 points from two wins in as many games.

Windward Islands Infernos are third on eight points, followed by Barbados Pelicans and Jamaica Titans, both on one win from three outings.

The West Indies Breakout League, launched this season, is played in a fast-paced T20 format. It provides players under the age of 30 a platform to impress selectors ahead of regional and international opportunities.

Guyana’s next fixture is against third-placed Windward Islands Infernos on May 4 — a tough test as the Rangers look to convert standout individual efforts into their first win of the tournament.
