West Indies confirm coaching changes ahead of European ODI tour

Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced changes to the coaching and support staff for the upcoming One Day International (ODI) tour of Europe, set to run from May 21 to June 3, with six matches scheduled against Ireland and England.

In a statement issued by CWI, it was confirmed that former West Indies fast bowler and 2012 T20 World Cup winner Ravi Rampaul will take over as Bowling Coach, replacing New Zealander James Franklin.

The team will also benefit from the temporary addition of former Ireland all-rounder Kevin O’Brien, who will join the coaching staff specifically for the Ireland leg of the tour.

The West Indies will play three ODIs against Ireland from May 21 to 25, before travelling to England for another three-match series from May 29 to June 3.

These fixtures are part of the ICC Future Tours Programme and represent a key phase in the team’s preparations for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

The team will continue to be overseen by Head Coach Daren Sammy, with Rawl Lewis serving as Team Manager. The full support staff for the tour includes:

Assistant Coach (Batting): Floyd Reifer

Assistant Coach (Bowling): Ravi Rampaul

Assistant Coach (Fielding): Rayon Griffith

Physiotherapist: Dr Denis Byam

Strength and Conditioning Coach: Ronald Rogers

Massage Therapist: Fitzbert Alleyne

Performance Analyst: Avenesh Seetaram

Media and Content Officer: Jerome Foster

Rampaul, who was born in Trinidad and Tobago, brings extensive experience to the role, having earned 133 international caps across formats during his playing career. Meanwhile, O’Brien, who famously played a major role in Ireland’s stunning 2011 World Cup victory over England, is expected to provide valuable local insight and guidance during the Irish leg of the tour.

The 15-man West Indies squad will be captained by Shai Hope, and features a blend of established names and emerging talents. The squad includes: Jewel Andrew, Keacy Carty, Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, Justin Greaves, Amir Jangoo, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Evin Lewis, Gudakesh Motie, Sherfane Rutherford, Jayden Seales, and Romario Shepherd.

This series is the West Indies’ first ODI assignment this year and offers a timely opportunity for Sammy’s side to refine their tactics, test combinations, and build momentum ahead of a busy international calendar.

CWI shared that the European tour forms part of a broader strategic push to develop consistency and depth in the 50-over format, following notable home series wins over England and Bangladesh at the end of 2024.
