West Indies name 15-man squad for European ODI tour

Cricket West Indies (CWI) has confirmed a 15-member squad for their upcoming One-Day International (ODI) tour of Europe, which will see them take on Ireland and England in a six-match series between May 21 and June 3.

The Caribbean side will face Ireland in three ODIs from 21 to 25 May, followed by another three-match series against England from May 29 to June 3. All matches form part of the ICC’s Future Tours Programme, with valuable ranking points and preparation time on the line ahead of the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

Shai Hope will continue to lead the squad, which features a blend of established international players and emerging talent. The squad includes: Jewel Andrew, Keacy Carty, Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, Justin Greaves, Amir Jangoo, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Evin Lewis, Gudakesh Motie, Sherfane Rutherford, Jayden Seales, and Romario Shepherd.

In a statement issued on 5 May, CWI said the selection ” the nucleus of players who were successful during home series wins against England and Bangladesh to end 2024″. The tour is West Indies’ first limited-overs assignment this year and is seen as a key step in building momentum and depth in the squad with the next World Cup in mind.

Head coach Daren Sammy stressed the importance of the European tour in shaping the team’s long-term strategy.

“These matches form a critical component towards the 2027 World Cup and there are signs of the team building consistency following the series sweep against Bangladesh and the win over England late last year. We expect the conditions to be challenging but we are creating a culture and mindset which emphasise playing the brand of cricket that is taking us closer to some of our overall objectives.”

The tour will offer the West Indies a valuable opportunity to test their squad in contrasting conditions and against varying opposition. It is expected to play a key role in refining tactics, assessing form, and consolidating team cohesion ahead of a busy international calendar.

The ODI series against England is also likely to draw attention, as it follows the West Indies’ 2–1 home win over the same opposition last December, suggesting a renewed sense of competitiveness in the Caribbean side’s white-ball setup.
