All eyes turn to the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall from Friday as Guyana’s most promising young fighters step into the ring for the Andrew Lewis Novice Championship — the nation’s premier showcase for up-and-coming boxing talent.
Running until July 27 in Georgetown, the championship serves as the official launchpad for novice boxers, with the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) using the tournament to scout the next generation of national contenders.

The championship has long been a battleground for the country’s best boxing gyms. Last year, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Boxing Gym took top honours, clinching the Best Overall Gym title — a result of disciplined preparation and depth across categories.
National Coach Lennox Daniels praised GDF’s 2024 performance but is keeping an eye on the rising competition. Among last year’s standouts were Best Novice Boxer Jagwan Milo, Best Schoolboy Boxer Ryan Rogers and Best Female Boxer Kenisha Plass.
As clubs from across Guyana field their brightest prospects, the stage is set for three days of fierce competition, unfiltered passion, and the relentless pursuit of glory in the ring.
The question remains: who will rise as Guyana’s next breakout boxing star?
